Frequently Asked Questions

  • Therapy is a unique process that varies greatly from person to person. At Mensink Counseling & Consulting, LLC, therapy will be a collaborative process that includes working together to achieve goals and change. We strive to create a confidential environment where you can feel open to discuss any issues and concerns that are important to you or your family.

At this time, we offer virtual therapy services only. Therefore, your therapy sessions will take place via video, or if deemed appropriate, via phone.

  • Therapy is a process that is unique to the person, family, or presenting concern. Some clients achieve change in just a few sessions; others require long-term therapy to support their functioning over a year or longer. Change is largely related to the client’s motivation and engagement in the therapy process.

Therapy sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes.

  • Therapy sessions are recommended on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis. This interval is determined based on information provided during the initial intake assessment session. Many clients start with weekly or biweekly therapy and reduce session frequency as their presenting concern improves.

  • We do not provide couples counseling.

Family therapy may be provided depending on the presenting concern. Our providers are trained in interventions for individuals of all ages and family-based interventions for young children and their families.

  • No, we do not accept insurance for a few reasons.

Insurance requires every client to receive a mental health diagnosis that becomes part of the client’s permanent medical record. Not all clients seeking therapy meet criteria for a mental condition, which is the only way insurance will reimburse for services. In addition, insurance dictates which services will be reimbursed based on the diagnosed condition. When you self-pay for services, you and your counselor have greater flexibility in the interventions, strategies, and services provided to manage your presenting concern(s).

Mensink Counseling & Consulting understands that insurance increases access to mental health services and makes services more affordable. This is why we have partnered with the Open Path Psychotherapy Collective to offer clients the opportunity to self-pay for therapy services on a sliding scale. We have limited openings for this service, and you should reach out to us to see if this is available. You can also find us through the Open Path Collective and request services with us directly. • No, we do not provide superbills for services rendered at Mensink Counseling & Consulting. This means you will self-pay for all services and will not be eligible for any reimbursement through your insurance plan including out-of-network (OON) benefits.

  • When your provider schedules an appointment with you, this time is reserved for you and only you. If you cancel with short notice or do not show at all, this time cannot be rescheduled with another client. Our policy is for you to cancel 24 hours prior to the appointment in order for the appointment time to be filled with another client. If you cancel within the 24 hours prior to the appointment or do not show for your scheduled session, you will be charged the full rate of your therapy session (e.g, $150).

  • Traditionally, therapy services have been offered as an in-person service only. As the growing needs of individuals and the advances of technology evolve, virtual therapy is becoming increasingly popular.

Will my child benefit from virtual therapy? Virtual therapy is not appropriate or recommended for all children. However, virtually-delivered therapeutic intervention itself is shown to be an effective approach in working with young people and can sometimes be more effective than in-person services for some. Talk with your provider about whether virtual services would be a good fit for your child.

  • Virtual therapy can take place in the comfort of your home or another confidential space. It does not require commuting or transportation. Due to these factors, virtual therapy may be easier to fit into you or your family’s busy schedule.
